Search for information more quickly with the Google app widget on your Home screen.

You can control the color, shape, and transparency of the Search widget that appears on your Android phone or tablet.

Customize your Search widget

  1. Add the Search widget to your homepage.
  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google app Add & customize your Search widget - Android (1).
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Add & customize your Search widget - Android (2) Settings Add & customize your Search widget - Android (3) Search widget Add & customize your Search widget - Android (4) Customize widget.
  4. At the bottom, tap the icons to customize the color, shape, transparency and Google logo.
  5. Tap Done.

Turn search bar Doodles on or off

Doodles will sometimes appear in the search bar on your Home screen. They are temporary for special events, like holidays.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google app Add & customize your Search widget - Android (5).
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Add & customize your Search widget - Android (6) Settings Add & customize your Search widget - Android (7) Search widget.
  3. Turn Doodles in Search widget on or off.

Reset your Search widget settings

You can reset your widget to default. If you reset the widget to default or clear your Google app data, your customization settings will be reset.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google app Add & customize your Search widget - Android (8).
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Add & customize your Search widget - Android (9) Settings Add & customize your Search widget - Android (10) Search widget Add & customize your Search widget - Android (11) Customize widget.
  3. At the bottom, tap Reset to default style Add & customize your Search widget - Android (12) Done.

Remove the Search widget

You can remove the Search widget from your phone or tablet. Learn how to remove an app, shortcut, widget, or group.

If you're on an older device, you may not be able to remove the Search widget from your phone or tablet.
