7 Ways To Go Green And Save Money (2024)

Going Green

Whether you are trying to save money or save the planet going green is beneficial to all. Going green is about choosing healthy options for ourselves as people and about choosing healthy options for our planet. Learn ways to go green and save money.

Single Use Disposables

On any given day, you can drive down the street or walk the shoreline and see plastic disposables that someone has tossed away.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Being ecological means choosing to use reusable containers and recycle the plastic and aluminum ones we use. Below you will find seven ways to help you go green.

How does going green save money?

When you choose to use a reusable container you are no longer paying for single use items. No more paper plates and plastic cups. No more paying for $2 plastic bottles of water.

Going Green At Home

Going green also means you are making your own homemade cleaners using regular household solutions that are healthier for you and the environment.

Tips For Going Green

So overall going green means, no more paying for single use items, no more paying for chemical cleaners, paper products are out and recycling is in.

7 Ways To Go Green:

1. Make your own homemade cleaning solutions

This is real easy so no stressing. The all purpose cleaner we use around our home is a 50/50 water, vinegar mix with a few drops of essential oils. I generally use lavender or peppermint.

2. Stop buying paper products

This includes paper towels, paper plates and napkins. Opt for reusable washable cloths like the ones we use.

Replace the paper plates with regular everyday dishes. If you are planning a picnic you can opt for reusable plates, cups and cutlery. This picnic set is amazing a full of all the items you need.

3. Take the no plastic pledge

Toss in your water bottles, food storage containers and plastic cutlery. Plastic has been known to contain chemicals that aren’t good for the environment nor ourselves. So make the choice to go plastic free.

Stainless steel water bottles are great they keep your beverages warm or cold. We also use stainless steel tiffin lunch containers in our home to transport meals.

You can find all sorts of stainless steel reusable environmentally safe containers here.

4. Choose organic and long term items

So many things in today’s market are single use, one season items. Make the choice to pay a bit extra for items that will last you longer. Which in turn means you are saving money because you aren’t purchasing the item over and over again.

Choosing organic is about choosing items that use no chemicals and in the long run are healthier for you and the environment. Think about apples the average apple you pick up in the store is covered in pesticides and wax and organic apples use natural growing techniques with no pesticides and chemicals.

Various foods, clothing and regular everyday items are available in organic form you can check some of them out here.

5. Say no to plastic shopping bags

Plastic shopping bags are essentially a waste. They are a single use item that can be replaced with a much more durable cloth shopping bag that can be used again and again.

We live in a city where cloth shopping bags are prefered by our retail outlets so we have been using the following options for years:

6. Choose different clothes drying options

Clothes dryers use a lot of electricity and dryer sheets contain lots of chemicals. Choose to hang dry your clothes on a clothesline or interior clothing rack. Instead of using dryer sheets you can opt for dryer balls which help decrease the static electricity and speed up the drying time.

We use dryer balls and add a few drops of essential oils to ensure fresh smelling laundry.

7. Recycle

First, I want to note that every city is different in the recycling program they offer. Generally, you can recycle paper, cardboard, metal, plastic and glass.

If you do drink canned and bottled beverages gather them up and return them for a refund. Or let your child return them for the refund and teach them about going green and saving money at the same time.

You have lots of options when going green, making frugal choices is also a great way to save money and support the environment.
