Trust me, I’ve been there. I needed cash ASAP so I decided to sell some of my belongings. When I looked for things to be sold, I was shocked by the number of items I had that I no longer used.
They were just sitting in storage and collecting dust.
From clothes that I mindlessly purchased in the past (some with original tags on them too) to handbags in excellent condition and shoes that were worn only a few times, there were items that no longer served me any purpose but were clearly monetizable.
Selling clothes was one of the fastest ways for me to make $100 a day. I even had a time when I made $500 in a day just from decluttering my wardrobe!
Aside from selling pre-loved clothes, I also refinished old furniture lying around my home for a profit.
Refurbishing furniture was an inexpensive hobby that I enjoyed during my free time and that alone earned me anywhere between $500 to $1,000 per month.

Clothes are usually the first thing a person turns to when they need money. All you have to do is search through your wardrobe and look for items that you don’t wear anymore.
Hoarding clothes in our closet not only clutters up the place but also deprives us of potential earnings.
Even when jeans don’t fit us anymore, or a jacket that no long aligns with our personal style, we still keep them in our closet. If this is you, it’s okay, today is the time you change that.
To make money from your used clothes, you can take them to a consignment shop, or sell them online through clothing apps like Poshmark, Mercari, and Depop.
Simply take clear photos of your items then upload them on the platforms. Don’t forget to describe them accurately. When someone buys it, the buyer pays you and you mail them the item.
3. Old Shoes
A survey conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center for ShopSmart magazine revealed that the average American woman owns 19 pairs of shoes. The fact that entrepreneurs, young or old, are making money in this niche, shows that you can make a decent income doing what you love.
The biggest names in the sneaker game are Nike, Adidas, and Jordan. Preferably, you should look for limited-edition or hard-to-find models that offer higher resale values.
Before posting them online, make sure it looks presentable and as new as possible. Take pictures in good lighting and brush away any dirt or dust on the surface. Make it squeaky clean for the ‘gram!
This will make it more enticing for your customers to purchase the products. When shot correctly and the outfit is on point, a sale is almost guaranteed!
9. Baby Items
These items fly off the shelves fast. There are plenty of new moms out there looking for baby shirts, onesies, toys, bibs, etc. They want a discounted price because everyone knows that babies grow fast!
Buying an item from Walmart or other stores and only being worn a couple of times isn’t seen as a good investment by many. Instead, they’d rather buy gently used items from those who have kids a few years older.
You can sell items like high chairs, changing tables, cribs, and other furniture that your baby outgrew. You can also list clothes in bundles to make the deal hard to resist.
Honestly, you can even talk to your friends, family, and neighbors with young children – they may have items that they want to give away because it’s taking up valuable garage space.
When it comes to baby products, the key is to make sure you’re selling safe and acceptable items. Try your best to describe the condition of the product and include a few pictures in your post.

From my furniture flipping experience, I suggest focusing on pieces that don’t require too much work. You can use some sandpaper and a coat of paint or spray paint to give it a refresh. Adding new knobs, handles and cushions can also change the entire look completely different.

11. Collectibles
If you’re in dire need of money, try selling one or two of your collectibles.
Die-hard collectors won’t think twice about buying an item when they like it or see that it can increase in value.

A word of caution though, if you’re an avid collector doing this might sting a bit when you have to let go of some of your collections. But you can find solace in knowing that you can rake in a good amount of money in exchange for your prized possessions.
Examples of collectibles are comic books, old games, figurines, sports cards, shoes, and memorabilia.
When you’re a collector, you already have a ballpark figure on how much is your item worth. If you’re not sure about the value, you can always check the price on eBay or ask an expert in the field.
Sometimes, there are also websites specific for certain types of collectibles like cards and figurines.
Don’t fall for low-balling buyers. Find the right buyer for your item. The right person knows how valuable your item is and will respect you as a fellow collector to not lowball you.
12. Old phones
Every time you upgrade your phone, the older one gets left in the drawer. They’re not doing anything other than taking up space and depreciating year after year.
There’s a good chance you also won’t use them again since your current phone is newer and much faster.
Although your old phone is not the latest model, there are still people looking to buy them because they want a slightly used device without paying the full retail price. Older phones can still be used as backup phones, and some people even use them as spare parts to fix other phones.
Don’t forget to erase all the data and information from those devices before you put them up for sale.

13. Fitness Equipment
We’ve all made promises to lose weight and get fit but life has a way of getting in the way and we end up putting it off for another day. Fitness equipment that you once used out of motivation has now started to sit in your living room.
While you might have other commitments to prioritize, there are people that are just starting their fitness journey. Monthly gym memberships are expensive, so beginners are open to more affordable options.
Treadmills, bikes, weights, yoga mats, and benches are items that you can sell. Just give it a good wipe and dust it to make it look presentable.
You can list these items on Facebook Marketplace and eBay. Create a post in your neighborhood group and someone near you that is building their own garage gym might be interested in buying everything you have to offer!
14. Bicycle
In a city where walking and biking can get you faster to your destination, selling a bike to raise funds is not a bad idea at all. What most people might have trouble with is pricing their bikes correctly to get the most money out of it.
One way to check the market value of your bike is to search for its model on Google – it will direct you to online listings on different platforms.
But if you can’t find your bike’s model on those websites, here’s a way to calculate the price according to Livestrong.
First, you need to get the depreciation value of the bike. To get it, use this equation:
Original cost of bike / Life expectancy of the bike = Depreciation value per year
For example, a bike costs $500. The life expectancy of the bike could be 5 years (assuming it’s used almost everyday). The equation would be:
$500 / 5 = $100
$100 is the depreciation value. So if your bike has been with you for two years its total depreciation value would be $200.
To know the current value of your bike, you’d just have to deduct the $200 from the original cost which is $500 – making your bike worth $300.
People love biking over driving because it’s much more cost-effective and eco-friendly. You get to your destination faster and get some daily exercise in. An additional major benefit would be that bikes have low maintenance costs!
15. Rent out space in your home
Want a lucrative income source with some effort?
Renting out your place to travelers or people needing temporary housing can be a smart option. The term “place” can pertain to a single room, an apartment, or even a condo. The money it generates can help cover a good chunk of your rent or mortgage.
Whenever I travel, I often opt to book an Airbnb because it gives me more freedom and privacy than a hotel. Besides, I get to see the home’s unique character.
Airbnb offers a great opportunity to make money by just renting out one room, which could be your guest bedroom or an extra space in the house. However, you need to be aware of the regulations and laws that come with renting out an Airbnb as they vary from state to state.
Another alternative is opening your doors to long-term tenants. If you don’t want to rent to complete strangers, ask your friends and coworkers if they know anyone looking for a place to stay. It’s important to educate yourself about tenant laws in your area, such as fair housing laws, security deposits, and privacy issues.
16. Video games and gaming consoles
These two things are items that will never go out of style. There are gamers in search of these items so they won’t have to pay the full price at GameStop or Best Buy.
If you have any old gaming consoles or video games, like the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Street Fighter, these can be relatively easy to sell. You could also try selling old video game controllers, headsets, and other gaming gadgets.
Some games and consoles here can be sold for way higher than the price you bought them. This is usually applicable to vintage games. For example, a brand new (unopened) Super Mario Bros game was sold for an astounding $2 million in an auction sale.
17. Designer Bags
This is very much like the collections above. When you sell your designer bags and you’ve worked hard to buy them, there’s no reason not to get every penny back that you can (and more!)
I’ve sold some luxury bags in the past and the results were amazing. If you have any Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, or Fendi bags that you barely use, it’s time to find a new owner that will appreciate their value.
You can either sell them on eBay or Poshmark, but the best place to get top dollar for these items is at your local luxury consignment stores. Once you drop them off, the store will do all the hard work for you like advertising and selling the items. They specialize in selling designer items and they often pay more than regular consignment stores.
Just make sure you have all the original paperwork so that buyers would know the bag is authentic. There are many scammers out there, so it’s essential to be careful. Also, don’t forget to include the original box and dust bag to get a better price.
18. Appliances
You might have put some appliances on the side even though they’re still functioning. Hopefully, you’ve wrapped and stored them where they are safe since you can still get cash for those items.
Those old TVs, washing machine, and cooler? Yep, they can be turned into hard cold cash. Rather than storing them in the shed in the backyard, it’s better to find them a new home.
A reminder when selling is to be honest with their defects if there are any.
In your ads, be specific with the description and mention the product name and model. This will reduce the hassle of answering questions from potential buyers.
For example, which description makes it more enticing to buy?
“Old washing machine” 0r “2022 LG Top Load Washing Machine, Turbo Drum?”
Most probably, you’re going for the latter choice because it gives you a better picture of the product. You know it’s a 2022 model and it’s a LG brand – more specific, more enticing.
19. Homemade Food
Are you good at cooking and baking? It’s time to put those skills to good use. You can start making money from your kitchen by selling homemade food. You don’t have to be a professional chef, but it helps when you’re familiar with food safety rules.
Cakes, cookies, and cupcakes are some of the most popular food items people like to buy for birthdays and special occasions. Consumers are more likely to go for homemade cakes over store-bought ones because they have a more personal and unique touch.
Maybe you like making snacks, healthy energy balls, protein bars, and granola bars. You can sell them to people who are looking for a healthier alternative to processed snacks. You can also tap into the trend of vegan and plant-based diets.
One way to market your goodies is to get on social media and share pictures of your products or set up a kiosk at a farmer’s market. As far as delivery goes, you can offer delivery services or curbside pickup.
Again, make sure you’re familiar with all the food safety rules so that your products are safe to eat.
20. Pet Supplies
If you have pet supplies around the house because your fur baby didn’t use or play with them, you can get $300 back in a snap.
Pet supplies like cages, litter boxes, beds and blankets, and toys get bought pretty quickly because pet owners know how expensive these items cost at original prices.
Your best bet is to either post them on Craigslist or through Facebook Marketplace. If you want your pet supplies to go fast, make sure you write a clear and detailed description of the item you’re selling.
An example of a good product description would be: “Rarely Used 2021 Le Creuset Fish-Shaped Dog Bowl”
21. Camera
You might have picked up a photography hobby before. But due to a busy work schedule, you barely use those camera gears anymore. Maybe it’s about time you sell your camera and find a new owner.

22. Art and Illustrations
Some of you might have the talent to create art but your work has never seen the light of day. It could be because you don’t think it’s worth selling.
Sometimes, the roadblocks to your path to success are the limiting beliefs you’ve placed on yourself. If you’re thinking you’re not good enough, remember that there’s a 10-year-old boy that makes more than $100,000 through his art creations.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a painting, figurines made out of clay, or any form of art creation, you will eventually find someone that appreciates your work. But you need to take the first step and share your art with the world.
You could sell your art physically by going to art fairs. Selling your art online is an option too. You can create your own website or use different platforms like Etsy, Amazon, and Society6.
23. Woodworking projects
Woodworking products are hard to make. Just a single creation can be a project that takes weeks to finish. And this is why when you find a buyer that admires your art, it feels so satisfying. The feeling of creating an item with your own hands and selling it for decent money is something that can’t be replaced.
Woodworking items range from handcrafted furniture to customized shelves, industrial clothing racks, kitchen products, and coffee tables. Smaller items like wooden signs and jewelry boxes are faster to create and can easily be sold for over $50 apiece.
Your work doesn’t have to be limited to Etsy or Amazon Handmade. You can also market your items on social media platforms and let your followers know you have new items that are available for sale.
And don’t underestimate the power of word-of-mouth. As soon as you start selling your items, let everyone in your circle know that you’re now a woodworking artist. Post pictures of the woodworking process to get more attention. Potential buyers will appreciate the hard work you put into it and they’ll be more likely to buy it.
24. Sell your car
The work-from-home culture is here to stay. That means most people don’t have to drive to their office or workplace as often anymore.
Of course, having a car on your driveway is convenient and still useful but if you’re not using it daily, you might be better off trading your vehicle in for cash.
Driving your car while being stuck in traffic for hours isn’t worth it – especially when you have alternatives that take you to places in a matter of minutes.
Getting around the city by taking public transport or ride-hailing services is just as convenient and more affordable.
Let’s not forget how much money you’ll save on car insurance and the headache that comes with repairs and maintenance. You can list your vehicle on websites like CarMax, Carvana, or Vroom.
If selling isn’t an option for you, try renting it out. It’s passive income and there are businesses that can help you find renters. Websites like Turo and Getaround are platforms where you rent your car to people that need for a day or two.
25. Online courses
Personally, I never thought I could ever earn money online, let alone teach. But I was dead wrong. People are hungry for knowledge and they’re eager to pay to gain it.
Many people (me included) think that only experienced experts can create courses and offer their expertise, but the truth is, everyone has the knowledge to share.
It’s just a matter of how you deliver the information.
For instance, I created a free 7-day blogging course for my readers who wanted to start a blog. It is basically an online boot camp that anyone could join and learn the basics of blogging. The course teaches beginners how to choose a niche, set up a blog, create content that resonates with readers, and other valuable tips that I learned from my own blogging experience.
Look, not everyone wants to learn from experts that 10,000 steps ahead of them. They want to learn from someone that’s just a few steps ahead and can relate to their struggles more.
You can create a course that teaches people anything from cooking 30 minutes meals to how to pick outfits for the office. Or even how DIY your own soap and beauty products.

Similar to online courses, eBooks have been popular for years since it’s the easiest way to share information in a book format. It’s also the most cost-efficient because it rids the traditional processes of printing, publishing, and distribution.

I created a variety of templates that is flexible enough for my readers to customize their own budget plan. It has different sections for people to track their expenses, organize their income, and track financial goals.
The contents of a PDF can be a story you wrote, an instructional manual, a workout guide, or an in-depth analysis of a subject.
27. Stream
The streaming industry has been growing each year. It is projected to reach US$139.20bn by 2027.
The term “streaming” goes beyond playing games. There are streamers who do wood carving and would get donations from viewers. Others even get paid to eat in front of cameras, popularly called Mukbang.
A lot of businesses are targeting streamers right now because that’s where most attention is. They pay good money to streamers to let them have product placement in their streaming sessions.
28. Be a writer
As a writer, you’re selling your skills on writing effectively and clearly. On top of that, people hire you because of your ability to make words engaging.

I would always advocate starting a blog because it’s what has changed my life. I’ve met a lot of amazing people online and learned so many valuable skills that a traditional job couldn’t teach me.
The common ways to monetize your blog are through ad placements, selling digital products, and promoting affiliate products. In fact, this is how I make a full-time income blogging.
Blogging is not just a way to earn extra money — it’s also an opportunity to grow and develop yourself.
I’d be lying if I said it was easy.
Gosh, I lost count of the number of mistakes I made along the way and the number of times I thought about giving up.
However, I believed in the idea and was passionate about it. That’s what motivated me to keep going and eventually, my blog generated enough money for me to quit my 9-5 job.
Did I see this coming? Absolutely not. But it’s been the best thing that has happened to me and I’m really thankful for it.

And lastly, coaching can earn you more money than your day job when you coach entrepreneurs who also offer high-ticket services.
