11 Blog Niches That Drive Good Traffic and Make Money (2024)

Blog niches that are a dime a dozen. Chances are if you’re considering starting a blog, chances are you’re interested in blog niches that make money. If so, Then this post is for you as we will be discussing some blog money making blog topics that are easy to monetize and gain traffic overtime.

Starting a blog is exciting. Just thinking about all the possibilities when it comes to earning money from your blog is hard to believe. Heck, you may have read some of those income reports online that talk about how easy it is to earn money from a blog in just a few months.

While it is possible to earn money from a blog, the truth is that it is most likely going to take you more than a few months to figure things out. Unfortunately, blogging comes with a learning curve, especially if you have never done it before.

The good thing is that it is possible if you can find a good topic to write about and start providing valuable content. Eventually, you’ll gain some readers and hopefully, the money will come.

That’s why it’s important to make sure that you get started in a one of the high demand blog topics that has the potential to be monetized. If you’re brand new and still and still haven’t started your blog, here’s a step-by-step tutorial to get your blog up today. Next, I’ve created a sneeze page that I’ve put several blog posts that will help you learn the basics of WordPress.

What Is A Blog Niche?

A niche is nothing more than a clearly defined topic or topics that are covered by a blog. When you choose a popular blog topic, you want to make sure that your focus isn’t too broad.

Good niches are the types that help people with their problems and have the potential to make a lot of money.

For instance: if you start a blog in the mountain bike niche, you would possibly have the following categories.

  • Bike Helmets
  • Mountain Bikes
  • Bike Trails
  • Biking Shoes

As you can see, all the categories in your blog have something to do with biking. You wouldn’t want to have a category that talks about recipes. Blog topics that make the most money are focused on helping your audience solve problems.

Your visitors who come to your blog are going to be interested in biking information. They are not looking for self help information, so make sure that you give them what they’re looking for.

If you can create content and deliver it to them, then you’ll most likely gain a loyal reader.

On the Other Hand

If your focus is too narrow when you start, it’s going to be extremely hard to keep growing your blog. When you first start blogging, you’re not going to know what actually resonates with your audience.

You’re going to have to write several blog posts before you can see what’s working with your audience inside of Google Analytics.

Once you know what your audience likes, you can then narrow your blog on those topics. Creating a profitable blog takes time, but once you figure out what your audience is looking for, you’re on your way to making money.

When You First Start

11 Blog Niches That Drive Good Traffic and Make Money (1)

You’re going to have to write several different articles in your niche. Don’t be afraid to go broad and see what your audience likes.

It’s kind of like throwing spaghetti at the wall until you see what sticks. Once you have some traffic and analytics you can start narrowing your blog a little bit and write more of what your audience likes.

Blogging Niches You’re Passionate About

We hear it all the time, choose one of the top 10 niches that you’re passionate about. While it’s true that you should know something about the niche you start a blog in and be interested in it, the truth is that not all niches are going to be easy to monetize.

For example: let’s say that you were interested in crab lice. (I’m not sure if there’s really such a thing as crab lice)

But if you wanted to start a blog in this niche, you would first have to see how many people were actually interested in this niche. You would do this by doing some keyword research to see if there are any searches pertaining to the niche.

Then before you put all your hard work into the blog, you’d want to make sure that you could monetize it through affiliate marketing, ads and other digital products.

Yes, it’s true that you could eventually create your own product if there was enough demand. But I think that it’s important to see if there are ready made affiliate products that you could promote on your blog.

If there are affiliate products available in the niche, this means that people are willing to spend money.

You need to make sure that the demand is there and people are willing to spend money in the niche. If you do not see any other bloggers in this niche and there are no affiliate products, chances are it’s a dud and you would be better off choosing a different niche.

What Is the Best Niche for Blogging?

Everyone wants a guarantee when they start blogging. I’ve seen so many people ask in Facebook Groups, “whats the best niche for blogging?” No one wants to start blogging in a niche that isn’t going to be profitable for them.

I know there are some high paying niches that do really, for instance, the make money online niche. It’s so tempting to start a blog in this niche, but the truth is that it’s so competitive, if you’re not good with keyword research, you’ll have a very hard time driving traffic to your blog.

Choosing a blog niche is not as easy as just sitting down and deciding you want to start blogging. I personally think that the most profitable blog topics are the ones that not only have the potential to make you money but you are passionate about as well.

Don’t make the mistake of starting a blog in something that you have no interest in. It will be very hard to treat it like a business and write amazing content if you are not interested in it.

Passion or Profitability

Personally, I think that you would be better of choosing a niche that you are somewhat passionate about and has the potential to be monetized.

After all, blogging is hard work at the beginning. At first you’ll be working for free, it’s going to take a while to get to $100 per day.

You definitely want to choose a niche that has the potential to be monetized as your blog starts to gain traction and authority.

I’ve personally started a blog in the past where I wasn’t passionate about the niche. But it was a profitable niche, that’s why I chose it.

While I am not saying that it can’t be done, the truth is that it was really difficult coming up with fresh blog topics on a regular basis.

I really didn’t care about the niche and I was just chasing the money. It took me forever to create content and I hated every minute of it.

I had a friend who wanted to start a blog in the self-help niche, but she knew nothing about it. She had the blog for maybe three months and got tired of it and ended up pivoting to a travel blog ideas niche.

She’s much happier but she wasted a lot of time writing in the wrong niche at the beginning. The lesson you should take is away is to make sure that you start a niche blog in something that you love or can learn to love.

Creating a blog takes time and if you don’t love it, there’s a much bigger chance that you’ll walk away from it.

Which Niche Makes the Most Money?

Wouldn’t it be nice to start a blog that is guaranteed to earn you an income? It would be nice to be profitable right out of the gate so you can pay for your blogging expenses and then have some to spare.

There are so many bloggers in Facebook groups who are always asking things like:

  • How long does it take to earn money from a blog?
  • Why isn’t my blog earning any money?
  • Is my blog working and why isn’t it earning anything yet?
  • How can I save money and time on my blog?

Look, I get it, who wants to continue working on a blog that doesn’t earn a penny? The truth is that regardless of which niche you choose, your or even if you choose the best things to blog about to make money online.

It’s going to take a lot of consistent work to see your blog grow overtime.

The Money Doesn’t Come Overnight

Blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. Instead, think of blogging as a long-term strategy.

The work that you put in today, will show up in profits down the road. This means that at the beginning, you are working hard to build up your blog, but chances are you won’t see a lot of profits.

Sure you might see some profits here and there. But the consistent income won’t be noticeable until you’ve been blogging for a while.

This is why it’s so important to choose something that has the potential to be monetized, but you’re still interested in the niche as well.

What You Need to Do

If you plan on staying in the blogging game for the long run, I suggest you find a blog niche that not only has the potential to make you money but has a chance for profitability as well.

Using this strategy will help you stay in the game when you’re not getting the results you want right away.

So let’s take a look at 11 blog niches that do not only have the potential to drive great traffic but have a huge potential to be monetized.

I’ll even show you some of the successful blogs that make money below. This will help you get a better idea of the type of content that they create.

Okay, the lifestyle blog that comes to mind is Chasing Foxes. The last income report of theirs said they were making $10,000 per month and that was an old income report.

Food Blogger

The food blog that I absolutely love isPinch of Yum and her story is amazing. She made money from her food blog by working on it during her free time when she wasn’t teaching. Now her and her husband get paid to blog about food.

They share some amazing recipes and I’ve even tried some of them out. The funny thing is that I don’t even cook, but I love the food niche.

You’re Probably Thinking

Okay, I am excited to get started, what do I need to do? Well, first things first. I suggest that you visit this tutorial to help you get your first blog setup.

Next you’ll want to research which of the blog niches you want to start with. Writing a blog post is extremely different than writing an email to a friend.

Before you sit down to create content, you’re going to want to see which keywords people are actually typing into the search engines.

This means that you’ll want to use a keyword research tool like LongTail Pro or use Google itself to see which keywords popular when you type in your seed keyword.

Looking for Blog Post Ideas Using Google

If you’re completely new to blogging, then I suggest that you avoid buying a keyword tool until you figure out how to do keyword research properly.

Instead, you can use the free keyword research tools that will help you get started. They won’t give you all the information you need, but they are a great way to get started writing content for your blog.

Here’s an Example

Let’s say that I started a blog in the pet niche and I’ve decided that I want to write about Cats. I used to own a Cat and she was an awesome pet.

I would go to Google and type in Cats. If you look closely Google will show you what people are searching for when they are looking for Cat information.

If people are looking for that particular information, then you know that if you write a blog post you’re not wasting your time.

Of course, you can’t expect to start seeing traffic from Google right away. It takes a few months before Google starts to rank your blog posts.

But don’t worry, I am going to tell you where you should put your focus as a new blogger when you start your blog.

Write, Write Write

As a new blogger, you’re going to need to write a lot of content. I suggest that you start writing 2-3 times per week. This will help you build up a blog that has a lot of content.

You want to make sure that each of your categories has a decent amount of content. This way when someone visits your blog, they will see a bunch of content and will be able to browse all your amazing content.

Now you don’t want to make the mistake of just writing content and NOT promoting it. If that’s all you do, then no one is going to see your content, no matter how great it is.

Promotion, Promotion, Promotion

Once you have a few blog posts, it’s time to start promoting it. Many people say that you should start promoting the minute you publish your first blog post.

Yes, you can do that. It doesn’t matter when you have one blog post or five. The important thing is that you want to start promoting your blog as soon as possible.

Promotion Mistakes

One of the biggest mistakes that most new bloggers make is they want to learn how to drive traffic to a new blog.

So they head to Google and type in “how to get traffic to a new blog.” Don’t lie, we’ve all done it.

When you do that, there are 1,000’s of results that come up. Usually what you do is choose the first one or the second one on the results page.

You’ll probably read something that says “you should promote everywhere.” While that’s true, we don’t want to put all our traffic eggs in one basket.

But if you’re a brand new blogger, that most likely means that you’re completely new to the promotion side of blogging. I know when I started blogging, I had no marketing experience.

Starting my blog was my first step into the entrepreneurial world. I had no clue what it meant to promote a blog.

Sure I knew that it meant I had to get my blog in front of other people. We all understand that if we don’t get our blog’s in front of people, we’ll never create a profitable blog.

But I needed someone to tell me how do I get my blog in front of people? All the blogs said the same thing. Be everywhere, be everywhere, be everywhere.

Don’t Try to Be Everywhere

What I am going to tell you is going to go against what all those blogs say. But if you’re a brand new blogger and if you’ve never promoted anything in your life.

Do yourself a favor and start with 1-2 promotional strategies. If you listen to everyone’s motto of being everywhere, you’re going to look back 6 months from now frustrated because you haven’t earned a penny or made any improvement with your blog.

Start With Pinterest

I wish I would’ve given Pinterest more of my time and effort when I started this blog. If you’ve never had a Pinterest business account or used it for business purposes, I suggest investing in this course to help you cut the learning curve in half.

Next, download the Amazon Kindle App and read anything and everything that you can for free on Pinterest. I’ve written a Pinterest eBook that you can read on your Kindle app.

Once you get an idea of how the platform works and your ready to work on your Pinning strategy, it’s time to invest in BoardBooster.

Board Booster will help you automate your pinning to an extent. You don’t want to make the mistake of letting the automation do everything for you.

It’s important to still do some manual pinning. Here’s a great eBook that will show you how to come up with a manual pinning technique that works overtime.

Keep Learning

It takes time to understand how Pinterest works. Unfortunately, there is a learning curve that comes with Pinterest.

Just like anything in life, it takes time to learn how to do something that you’ve never done before. You can learn a lot just by reading the Tailwind blog and the Pinterest blog.

It does take time to start seeing traffic from Pinterest. I know that you’ve probably heard so many people say that Pinterest traffic comes overnight.

That wasn’t my case, it’s taken time to see growth. But I am finally starting to see growth and I am continually learning and experimenting with my Pinterest strategy.

So be patient and give it time to grow. I actually almost quit because I just wasn’t getting the results that everyone claims.

Whatever you do, just keep testing and tweaking until you figure things out.

This is where many people give up. They get impatient because they are not seeing the results as quickly as they had anticipated.

Chances are you’re going to start thinking that Pinterest doesn’t work. So you start browsing the Internet and then something comes up the search results that promise you overnight traffic results.

So you buy it hoping that it solves your problem of no traffic. That’s known as the shiny object syndrome. We’re you keep buying those promises of instant results.

This path is ruthless and if you’re not careful, it can prevent you from seeing success for years. How do I know this?

Well, I’ve been down that path. I was a sucker for buying those types of products that promised instant overnight success.

Don’t do it. If it sounds too good to be true, chances are it is.

Stick to Your Plan

If you’ve started learning Pinterest, don’t give up. As long as you know that your audience is on the platform, then you know that you’re not wasting your time.

How do you know if your audience is on the platform? Easy, do some research on Pinterest, if you see other blogger’s pins in the same niche that you started your blog in.

Most likely you’ll do good once you come up with a great pinning strategy that works.

I know that you don’t want to put in all the work up front without making a penny with your blog. In fact, there’s absolutely no guarantee that your blog will earn any money.

But if you really want to start a blog that has the potential to earn you money while working from home. Then you’re going to have to do the legwork and put in the work.

It’s a long journey and if you’ve never been an entrepreneur or have no clue how to turn a blog from hobby to business. I suggest investing in a blogging course or coach that will show you the ropes.

Sometimes it’s best to invest in yourself even though it does cost money. Imagine the time it will cut down on your learning curve than trying to figure things out on your own.

Invest In Your Education

Whenever you’re learning something new, you can’t expect to know everything about the platform. I personally think that you’ll get a lot further faster if you take the time to invest in your education.

These are the Pinterest tools and courses that have helped me finally reach 8,000 pageviews last month. You can read my blog traffic update here.

Board Booster: an Automated scheduler that I use to help me keep active on Pinterest. Here’s $5 to give it a try. (unfortunately, it is no longer available as an option to use, I loved it while it lasted.)

Tailwind: Pinterest automated scheduler I use to pin other people’s pins when I am not able to spend time manual pinning. Take it for a spin and try it for free for 30 days.

Pinning Perfect: I chose to pick up this course when I was completely new to Pinterest. It cut my learning curve in half and helped me set up my foundational base without any hiccups.

Pinterest Strategies: This eBook has helped me improve my manual pinning strategies that I’ve been using for the past 2 months that have increased my traffic significantly.

PIMP: A more advanced Pinterest course that has helped me understand the stages a pin goes through from the minute it is pinned on Pinterest and what to do with it so Pinterest understands what it’s about.

If you do invest in any of the tools above, make sure that you actually use it. Don’t just spend money thinking that something will help you grow.

You’re going to have to put some effort into it if you want to see growth.

Final Take Away

It’s exciting to think about the life-changing results that a blog can provide for your family. If you’re getting ready to start a blog, make sure that you choose a niche that has been proven to work instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

Focus on writing amazing content and then work hard to promote it. Don’t try to be everywhere when you first start your blog.

Instead, focus on 1-2 traffic strategies and master those. Once you master those traffic strategies, you can then move on to a different traffic strategy.

If you take the promotion techniques one step at a time instead of trying to be everywhere when you start. Chances are your blog will grow faster and you’ll be less likely to quit.

Oh and if you’re completely new to WordPress and the technical side of blogging is challenging. I’ve put together some articles that will help you learn the technical basics.
